Driving Simulator
The SDSU STAR lab features a driving simulator equipment (made by DriveSafety) providing a high-quality, authentic automotive control environment based on a midsized Ford Focus passenger car. Standard driver controls and information systems include a live steering wheel with active force feedback, automatic transmission gear select, turn signals, analogue speedometer, gas and brake pedals, driver response input buttons and vent fan control. The visual display system of the driving simulator is configured with three 55-inch class curved OLED HD display panels subtending a veridical 150 horizontal degrees.
Intelligent Transportation Management Center (ITMC)
The SDSU STAR lab is currently partnering with the City of Chula Vista to instrument a signalized intersection with multiple equipment such as video cameras and edge computing devices to build an intelligent transportation system (ITS) test bed in which new technologies (e.g., Computer Vision, Connected and Automated Vehicles) can be tested for the purpose of improving proactive safety assessment, enhancing operational efficiency, and lessening the environmental impacts of transportation. The STAR lab also features a 72-by-127 inch video wall and a server that can be used to display and analyze video data obtained from the ITS test bed.
